The Story
I was wandering through the Saint Victor neighbourhood in Marseille, deliberately looking for contrasts between the old and the new. This white building immediately caught my eye – its simple, almost severe, modern facade with those striking vertical windows and the dark security bars felt so strong against the intense azure sky.
It was a beautiful, crisp December afternoon in Marseille. The sun was high, casting these dramatic, graphic shadows from nearby trees across the building. You can just make out the terracotta roofs of older structures peeking out behind, a reminder of the layers of history here. It's that mix of the serene, almost abstract architectural forms with the hints of lived-in, older city life that I find so compelling about this part of France.
