Palermo's Sunlit Piazza

The Story

What a view from up here! I’m standing on the roof of the Cathedral of Palermo, looking down at the stunning Piazza Pretoria. It’s late afternoon on New Year's Eve, and the sun is casting these incredible long shadows across the intricate paving stones. You can really feel the history in this place, with the ancient buildings and the famous Fountain of Shame right in the middle.

The light here is just magical, making the greens of the gardens pop against the warm stone of the buildings. Even with some scaffolding on one side, the energy of the people walking through the piazza is palpable. It’s moments like these, capturing the everyday life of a city against such a dramatic backdrop, that I love most about travel photography.

This shot really encapsulates the essence of Palermo for me – a place where history, culture, and daily life blend seamlessly under the Mediterranean sun. I hope it brings a little piece of this beautiful Italian city into your home.
