The Story
Standing on the shore of Lake Hāwea, I was immediately struck by the intensity of the water's colour. It shifted from this incredible, almost luminous turquoise right by the pebble beach to a deep, powerful blue as it stretched towards the distant mountains. The wind was up, creating beautiful textures on the surface, making the whole scene feel alive.
The backdrop of the Southern Alps provided such a dramatic contrast to the vibrant water. The scale of them is immense, and the way the light played across their slopes, with the clouds casting shadows, was just spectacular. It felt like a truly wild and remote place, a corner of New Zealand that really showcases the raw power and beauty of the landscape.
