Summit Serenity Wānaka
Stand atop Roys Peak in Wānaka, New Zealand, and feel the immensity of the Southern Alps. This iconic view captures the heart of the South Island's breathtaking natural beauty.
The Story
The climb up Roys Peak is a journey, and the reward is truly spectacular. I captured this scene on a late summer afternoon in February 2019, just as the clouds began to gather, adding a dramatic flair to the already epic landscape. The golden tussock grass, so characteristic of this region, was beautifully lit, contrasting with the deep blues of Lake Wānaka and the distant snow-capped peaks.
It’s moments like these, standing on a narrow ridge with the world stretching out below, that make travel so profound. You feel so small, yet so connected to the raw power of nature. Seeing a few other hikers on the trail ahead added a sense of shared experience to the solitude, a reminder that we're all drawn to these incredible places for similar reasons.
