Palermo's Celestial Domes

The Story

Standing on Via Vittorio Emanuele, I tilted my NIKON Z 7 2 upwards, completely captivated by the sheer scale and artistry of the Palermo Cathedral. The sun was high, around 13:30, casting a warm glow on the honey-coloured stone and making the blue sky even more vibrant. I wanted to capture the way the different domes (the grand central one and the smaller, more decorative ones in the foreground) played off each other, framed by that incredible sky.

It's moments like these that make travel photography so rewarding. You're not just documenting a place; you're trying to convey the feeling of being there, the awe that washes over you. The intricate patterns along the roofline and the way the light caught the edges of the stonework were details I couldn't ignore.

Palermo itself is a city that wears its history on its sleeve, and the cathedral is perhaps its most striking example. This shot, taken on the last day of December 2025, feels like a perfect encapsulation of the city's enduring spirit and its rich, layered past.
