Seoul's Painted Eaves
Step into the heart of Seoul's rich history with this captivating print. The vibrant, hand-painted eaves tell stories of centuries past, a testament to Korea's enduring artistic legacy.
The Story
Standing in the grounds of a historic palace in Seoul, I was struck by the sheer artistry of the traditional Korean roofing. The midday sun illuminated the intricate patterns painted onto the eaves, a riot of colour against the calm grey tiles.
I framed the shot to emphasize the overlapping layers of the roofs, creating a sense of depth and drawing the viewer into the complex, beautiful details. The bright blue sky provided a perfect, unblemished backdrop, allowing the vibrant reds, greens, and golds of the woodwork to truly pop. It felt like a moment of quiet contemplation, surrounded by the echoes of history.
