Budapest's Grand Dome
Standing before the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest, I was struck by its monumental presence, even under a sky of soft, muted grey.
The Story
I captured this image on Christmas Day in Budapest, Hungary. The sky was completely overcast, which, rather than detracting from the Parliament Building's magnificence, seemed to amplify its intricate details and imposing silhouette.
The low angle and tight crop I chose emphasize the building's verticality and the dramatic contrast between the reddish-brown dome and the verdigris-kissed spires. It was a quiet morning, fitting for the solemn grandeur of the architecture. I wanted to convey the sense of history and enduring power that this structure exudes, especially on a day that is typically filled with celebration elsewhere.
