The Story

Standing on a ridge overlooking the San Mateo County coast, the view unfolds with dramatic beauty. The Pacific Ocean stretches out, a vast expanse of deep blue meeting the shore with a consistent rhythm of waves. The beach below is a golden ribbon, dotted with a few people enjoying the afternoon sun.

The landscape inland is a testament to California's varied terrain, with neatly kept green fields and pockets of trees creating a patchwork quilt effect against the darker, more rugged forests that dominate the immediate foreground. The air is clear, though a slight haze softens the distant horizon, a typical characteristic of this coastal region.

It was a beautiful, clear afternoon in mid-March. The light was soft, creating a painterly quality to the scene. I wanted to capture the scale and the peaceful coexistence of the natural coastline with the cultivated land, a signature of this part of California.
