The Story

Standing in the courtyard, I was immediately struck by the contrast. The air was cool and still, typical of Taipei in late autumn. The sheer scale and detail of the golden incense burner were breathtaking, a testament to exquisite craftsmanship.

What truly made this scene unique, however, was the backdrop. The intricately decorated, classic temple roofs, with their vibrant colors and mythical beasts, were juxtaposed against the stark, grey lines of contemporary high-rise apartments. It felt like a perfect visual metaphor for Taipei itself – a city that deeply honors its past while rapidly embracing the future.
