Portofino's Hidden Shore
Discover a serene and timeless corner of Portofino, Italy, where history meets the rugged beauty of the Ligurian coast. This secluded view captures the soul of the Italian Riviera.
The Story
Standing on the water, looking back towards the coast of Portofino, I was struck by how the dense, dark green forest seems to swallow the rugged cliffs. It's only when you look closely that you spot the scattering of buildings, almost hidden away, clinging to the slope.
There's a sense of quiet grandeur here. The pale stone of the main building, the distinctive dome, and the imposing watchtower stand in stark contrast to the wildness of nature around them. The late afternoon light cast long shadows, accentuating the textures of the rock and the depth of the forest, while the sea below was a deep, almost inky blue.
It felt like stumbling upon a secret. Portofino is known for its vibrant harbour, but this view offered a different perspective – one of quiet contemplation and enduring history, a testament to centuries of human presence on this dramatic Italian coastline.
