Yosemite's Veiled Giant
Witness the raw power and timeless beauty of Yosemite National Park. This iconic waterfall, framed by granite giants and flowing river, captures the breathtaking grandeur of California's natural heritage.
The Story
Standing on the banks of the Merced River in Yosemite National Park, I was completely captivated by the scene before me. The sheer scale of the cliffs and the roaring cascade of the waterfall were humbling. I wanted to capture the dynamic energy of the water in the foreground, contrasting it with the immense, solid rock and the distant, yet powerful, fall.
The light was perfect – bright sun creating deep shadows and highlights, making the granite face and the spray from the falls really pop. The vibrant greens of the trees and the intense blue of the sky spoke of late spring. It felt like a moment of pure, untamed wilderness, a true testament to the majesty of this incredible national park.
I positioned myself to get the river leading the eye towards the waterfall, using the gentle curve of the bank to frame the view. The lone dead tree provided a touch of dramatic contrast, a reminder of nature's cycles against the enduring landscape.
